Refined typography meets the ‘Aussie Bloke’
The creative chaps from South-SouthWest have managed to encapsulate the characteristics of the ‘Aussie Bloke’ in a typeface, and still create a really refined piece of design. Great work lads!

Absolutely brilliant!
The following posters were aimed at attracting students to a design school. The posters had to effectively seperate the people that think visually, to those that think… well… like everybody else. Best series of ads I’ve seen in a long time.

Big river man

Making 18 typefaces work in harmony on one poster is no mean feat. Hats off to all city media for making it work so well.- Posted on the 23.07.2009, Permanent Link

Checkmate!

The billboard on the left is for Audi, the billboard on the right for BMW was strategically erected at a later stage to challenge the Audi ad. Billboard rage, Love it!Sometimes it pays to know where your competitors are advertising.

Smart man!
Photographers spend days behind the lense, for that one cracking shot to go in the portfolio. That magic moment when the dappled shadow dances along the buildings facade and the subjects eyes hit the camera lense through the shimmer of sunlight – and you snap. You got it! that magic moment is frozen in time forever, and there might not be another like for 3 weeks.
One photographer by the name of Peter Funch, really doesn’t enjoy that 3 week wait for the next magic moment, so he creates it himself, with pure imagination (and a little help from technology).

football anyone?

I received my usual monthly newsletter from Sydney based photographer, Toby Burrows yesterday, which included this image. Now is it just me, or is that not a full size football ground with an a naturally formed stadium around it, in the heart of the desert?Either way, Toby’s new series of aerial landscape photographs blew my mind, if you are somebody that appreciates photography and or abstract art (or just the desert) I highly reccomend a visit!

The character within
In one sense its about taste, in another stereotypes, in another fashion, in another style and lifestyle… and you could go on. It just says so much! I guess it comes down to how you read it as an individual. Considering sex sells, will the coffee flavour find a new male demographic it didn’t previously have? Will they sell less honeycomb because its seen as a little nerdy, conservative and unfashionable. Or will they all simply turn people off eating ice-cream altogether? Whether it’s successful or not on the shelf is of little relevance here, as a piece of clever communication is shines for mine. I applaude reach design who had the balls and creativity to put this on the table.

Stunning typographic journey

Occasionally you will come accross somebody that truly enjoys the art of typographic expression. As if they were playing a musical instrument, they loose themselves to the journey – that is the infinate exploration of their art. Loose yourself in this brilliant journey. And if you discover who was responsible for created it, please let me know.- Posted on the 18.07.2009, Permanent Link

Logo conservation

Save Your Logo provides an opportunity to invest in the conservation of the species of animals used in companies logos. Will companies leveraging off the concepts associated with these animals to sell their goods, be responsible enough to recognize the link and support the animals? Im not totally convinced, but it would be great to see it take off! Time will tell.

Love olive. Love brand.

To be totally honest, I’ve got no idea where this comes from and who created it. It was tucked away in my ‘great brand case studies’ directory, and I didn’t record its origin. I just think its a beautifully executed brand personality. It plays with the earthy colours and textures associated with olives, but maintains a really vibrant persona through the typography. A perfect mix for mine, really like it.- Posted on the 17.07.2009, Permanent Link
